We set out to catch the egg laying event for early stoneflies (skwala, late winter black, early brown). The camper was loaded and the weather perfect for stones to be coming back to the water on their egg laying. Sunny skies and warm weather gets the adults moving. It was the first good weather of the open water season in central Alberta that likely would coincide with the stones. The trouble was that we miss-timed the event. The stones were coming out of the water to hatch rather than going back to egg lay. So we streamer fished likely water. We then used heavy stonefly nymphs to missed or spotted fish while streamer fishing. The stonefly hatches are getting going now and this next while should be quite productive!
