On Tuesday, May 17, 2016, the official ceremony to change the name of Waskasoo Pond to Mitchell Pond in the city of Red Deer will occur. Mayor Veer for the City of Red Deer will lead the ceremony in this dedication, which honors the lifetime dedication to our fisheries by Barry Mitchell, who passed away Fed, 2015. There will be short speeches from Mayor Veer as well as Doug Pullan on behalf of the Central Alberta Chapter of TU as well as Barry’s daughter Jennifer Stange on behalf of the Mitchell family.
The City is providing wagon ride transportation from the Heritage Ranch Restaurant to the Pond at 11:45. Wavier forms to be signed for those who want to ride the wagon. The dedication ceremony process will be 11:30am to 1pm.
There will be a plaque of commemoration at Mitchell Pond unveiled at this ceremony.
