Floatant Tip

A quick solution to your 1/2 empty floatant tube
A quick solution to your 1/2 empty floatant tubes

If you fly fish, no doubt you use floatant for your dry flies. Those little tubes are great when they’re full, aren’t they? A little squeeze and out it comes. As the tube gets used and those cold days hit, it’s almost impossible to get any out. By the time you’re under 1/2 full, you likely want to throw that little tube in the trash. Don’t. Buy a new tube of floatant. Use it until you reach the same point in the tube. Now you have 2 tubes 1/2 full.

Put an inch of water into a pot on the stove and bring to boil. Remove from heat. Toss the floatant tubes into the water for 20 seconds. The heat will get the floatant liquefied. Unscrew the top of each one and pour one into the other. Voila – you have a fresh, full tube of floatant that is once again easy to use. Recycle the empty one.

Use Albolene (http://www.albolene.com/) for floatant. It’s the same, cheaper and available at your local drug store. Some mix Albolene with lighter fluid and dip dry flies in the cocktail before fishing. Street name “Flyagra”.
