We at the Alberta Fishing Guide Magazine are absolutely wowed by the efforts of Len Thompson Fishing Lures. Part of our partnership campaigns is to share social media shares with our partner advertisers. When the Fort McMurray fires erupted they were quick to produce the Alberta Strong fishing lure. Each time we shared posts from Len Thompson, we saw an incredible number of views and shares. The campaign reached people and people connected with it, strongly. With such a solid commitment to community and supporting that community, the fundraising for the community, we can’t help but share their press release as the campaign comes to completion. Len Thompson Lure’s #FishingForFortMac Fundraiser Yields $20,000+ Donation

LACOMBE, ALBERTA – When the owners of Alberta based Len Thompson Lures
saw the terrifying videos coming from the mass evacuation of Fort McMurray, they
wanted to do their small part to help.
“As with many of the people in our company, we all know lots of people living in
Fort McMurray. Hearing their accounts of the evacuation…and the videos… it still
sends tingles up my spine,” said company President Brad Pallister. “I called my
sister and we talked about how we could best help.”
The Pallister siblings thought that their nationally distributed products could
generate interest across the country, and so a pair of prototype #AlbertaStrong
fishing lures were quickly made and put for sale on the company’s website. They
decided that of the first 1000 lures sold, 100% of the proceeds would be donated to
the Canadian Red Cross.
“Less than 16 hours after we first advertised them across social media, all 1000
lures were sold! The response took us by complete surprise,” said Jessica Pallister-
Dew, the company’s Marketing Manager. “After we announced that the lures were
sold out, messages poured in asking us to make more lures. So we did. Our retail
partner The Fishin’ Hole also wanted to help, and sold the lures in their Alberta
stores.” The second batch of lures had 50% of the proceeds donated to the Red
Over the course of May, over 2600 #AlbertaStrong fishing lures were sold. The
company also made donations through a May Long Weekend photo contest, and by
donating 10% of the company’s custom promotional lure sales.
“It was amazing to see the positive response from our customers from across the
country. Our staff were also so dedicated to the cause, working extra hours to make
sure we could fulfill these orders as quickly as possible,” said Pallister. “Without
them, this could not have been possible.”
In total, fundraising efforts throughout May resulted in $20,482 donated to the
Canadian Red Cross’s Alberta Fires Appeal.
“It was a lot of work. But if our efforts were able to help, even in the slightest…it
more than worth it!”
