Tying the Foam Humpy

Anyone who has ever tied a fly has most likely tied the Foam Humpy or some version of a Humpy. A classic dry fly that rides the surface for a long time, is easily pinched and dried out, and can easily hold a dropped nymph, this is a pattern that will catch trout. A favorite in riffles and moderate to fast water, it’s a great searching/prospecting pattern for rainbows and cutthroat trout. While it is a relatively nondescript pattern, it can represent mayflies, caddis, or stonefly on Alberta waters. It’s always worth having a few of these in the box.

Our friends over at Fish Tales Fly Shop have put out another great video featuring the Foam Humpy. 🙂
